HARNESSING THE SUN
Sunlight, is a portion of the electromagnetic radiation given off by the Sun, particularly infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light which is a combination of bright natural light and radiant heat. Many people find direct sunlight too harsh to their eyes, especially when reading under direct sunlight. Long-term effects of prolonged sunlight exposure is known to be associated with the development of skin cancer, skin aging, eye disease and immunosuppression, while short-term overexposure to sunlight causes sunburn, snow blindness and solar retinopathy. To mitigate the brightness and heat of direct sunlight, people often attempt to control it by equipping their homes and workplace with window blinds, curtains, awnings, or shutters, sacrificing the pleasantness of natural light.
THIN FILM TECHNOLOGY
Thin film is a layer of material ranging from fractions of a nanometer (monolayer) to
several micrometers in thickness. Horus Window Films are made by using thin film
resistors that are characterised by a resistive layer of Polyethylene Terephthalate
(PET), also known as Polyester on a ceramic base. This polyester is designed to
achieve better clarity, tensile strength, dimensional stability (retains its shape and
shrinks minimally over time) whilst retaining the ability to accept a variety of surfaceapplied or embedded substances.
The base of Horus Window Films contains alumina ceramic, a material relatively high in hardness and inertness, this type of
coating suited for the protection of substrate materials against corrosion, oxidation and wear. It has a thickness in the order of 0.1
micrometer with a metallic film that is vacuum deposited on an insulating substrate. It features a high temperature tolerance and
low temperature coefficients. Horus Window Films is regarded as the window film brand that offers a better temperature
coefficient and industry leading stability in the window film sector.
UNDERSTANDING WINDOW FILM
Window film is a thin film designed to be installed on the glass interior surfaces of
automobiles, vessels, homes and buildings. There are a variety of film types available
from various manufacturers offering different grades, shades, colors and thickness to
offer solutions to a variety of challenges. Window films are common retrofitted
upgrades to existing glass that can be used to address inherent glare and heat
complications. It is also regarded as a cost-effective method to reduce heating and
cooling costs in existing buildings by reducing the amount of heat transfer through the glass apertures. But, not all window
films are suitable for all glass applications. Points to be considered would include the
absorption of glass and the film, the size of the window pane, the thickness of the glass, the construction of the window in terms of a single pane, insulated glass, treated (low-emissivity coating), laminated or toughened glass.
